The Wicker Park Advisory Council & Garden Club in partnership with the Chicago Park District will present The 1099 String Quartet, a cutting edge professional string quartet led by Ryan Loeckel.  The quartet will present thematic programs and perform outside in the park on 2nd & 4th Sundays of June, July, and August. To enhance the performances’ thematic contents, additional instruments will be added to the quartet for some of the performances.

Come at 10am and take a tour of the Park and Gardens before the performance.  Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy or pick up some food at the Farmers Market.

Musician Bios

 Jaime Gorgojo is violin and viola instructor at Northeastern Illinois University. In addition to his teaching pursuits, Dr. Gorgojo is in great demand as a performer. In 2010, he was appointed Concertmaster of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and has performed under the baton of renowned conductors such as Ricardo Muti, Lorin Maazel, Essa-Pekka Salonen and Cliff Colnot. He has been a guest Concertmaster for the Green Bay Symphony, and Assistant Concertmaster of the International Beethoven Festival in Chicago. Recent highlights in Dr. Gorgojo’s career are chamber music appearances with Yo-Yo Ma on the Chicago Symphony Center Presents series, and on the DePauw Discourse at DePauw University. He has performed as a soloist, chamber and orchestra musician in Spain, France, Mexico, Canada and the Middle East. For two seasons, Dr. Gorgojo worked with the MusiCorps Program, a training and access program of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra that provides performances in schools and city parks around the Chicago metropolitan area.

 Song­hea Sackrider received her Bachelors degree in Violin Performance from the University of Michigan and a Masters degree in Violin Performance from Northwestern University. She has been a member of the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and guest principal and soloist with the Kalamazoo Symphony and is a recipient of the Kapnick Scholar Fellowship with the Civic Orchestra and Northwestern University. Songhea is on faculty at the New Music School and GEMS World Academy.

Ryan Loeckel is an active musician, vocalist and arts administrator in the Chicagoland area.  Trained as a classical violinist and violist at the Ohio State University, he is a descendant of the Max Aronoff line of violists through studies with Marcia Ferritto.  He has played in Principal positions under conductors and composers such as John Corigliano, Alessandro Siciliani, Louis Lane, Michael Tilson Thomas and Krzysztof Penderecki, in addition to sharing the stage with various recording artists including Josh Groban, Idina Menzel and Barry Manilow amongst others.  Ryan’s playing, singing, and arrangements have been heard on syndicated National Public Radio broadcasts, aboard five-star Holland America Line ships and in hundreds of performances at professional Equity theaters.  Ryan is Executive Director of the Danville Symphony Orchestra (IL) and a string educator with Danville District 118 Schools.

Christopher Ferrer is a member of Lakeshore Rush and teaches at the New Music School. He performs with Camerata Chicago and has been a featured chamber musician on WFMT. From 2013-2014 he worked as principal cellist for the West Side Story North American Tour. Christopher attended the Royal College of Music in London and Northern Illinois University. While in high school, he was a member of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Encore Chamber Orchestra. Christopher studied cello with Ann Griffin, John Sharp, Sasha Boyarsky, and Cheng-Hou Lee. He has had the opportunity to perform in masterclasses and participate in coachings with Julian Jacobson, Janet Hilton, Lewis Kaplan, and Warren Jones.
