
The Wicker Park Advisory Council & Garden Club in partnership with the Chicago Park District will present The 1099 String Quartet, a cutting edge professional string quartet led by Ryan Loeckel.
The quartet will present thematic programs and perform outside in the park. To enhance thematic content of each performance additional instruments will be added to the quartet at some of the performances.
Come at 10am and take a tour of the Park and Gardens before the performance.
Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy or pick up some food at the WPB Farmers Market (8am-2pm Each Week).

Ryan Loeckel is an active musician, vocalist and arts administrator in the Chicagoland area. Trained as a classical violinist and violist at the Ohio State University, he is a descendant of the Max Aronoff line of violists through studies with Marcia Ferritto. He has played in Principal positions under conductors and composers such as John Corigliano, Alessandro Siciliani, Louis Lane, Michael Tilson Thomas and Krzyszt of Penderecki, in addition to sharing the stage with various recording artists including Josh Groban, Idina Menzel and Barry Manilow amongst others. Ryan’s playing, singing, and arrangements have been heard on syndicated National Public Radio broadcasts, aboard five-star Holland America Line ships and in hundreds of performances at professional Equity theaters. Ryan is Executive Director of the Danville Symphony Orchestra in Danville, IL.
Matthew Cataldi received a master’s of music degree in violin performance from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in music from Indiana University in Bloomington. He is the recipient of numerous grants, fellowships and scholarships at the local, state and national levels. Principal teachers have included Gerardo Ribeiro, Ilya Kaler, Davis Brooks and Anna Svirsky. His coaches have included Mathias Tacke, DaXun Zhang, David Campbell, Ik-Hwan Bae, and Ann Setzer. As a violin teacher, Matt has given guest lectures and recitals in both modern and period stylistic practices at the Columbia College of Chicago and Lake Forest College. He also started the string educational programs at the Westerville (Ohio) Strings Academy and helped to start the Little Crickets Strings Program at the McGaw YMCA in Evanston. His interest in contemporary music is mirrored by his performances in Accessible Contemporary Musicians, the Palomar Ensemble, Aperiodic, and by sponsoring new composers as Music Director of the Renovo String Orchestra.
Joanna Bryk-Roberts began playing violin at the age of seven. She studied at Academy of Music in Krakow, Poland, and received her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from DePaul University, where she studied with violin professors Joseph Genualdi and Ilya Kaler. Joanna performed with chamber orchestras in Poland, Switzerland, Germany and even the Spanish Court. She has played in the Chicago area with the Lira Ensemble, Advent Chamber Orchestra, New Millennium Orchestra of Chicago and a variety of other chamber groups. She currently plays with Rockford Symphony Orchestra and teaches at Encore Music Academy.
Sixto Franco enjoys an active career as a performer, teacher and composer, including performances with Eighth Black Bird, International Chamber Artists, Symbiosis Ensemble in L.A., the Kaia String Quartet, Chicago Chamber Music Festival and the Chicago Chamber Orchestra. He enjoys composing and has written music for different mediums such as chamber music, theater and dance, and made his debut in 2011 premiering his work “Blanco y Negro” in a Cancer Benefit at the Spanish Consulate in Los Angeles. The “malArte Association” of Valencia, Spain, premiered his piece Five “O’clock Tabu” as the soundtrack for the interdisciplinary work with the same title. His last collaboration included the Chicago’s Tiffany Lawsone Dance Company resulting in the creation of “Calm Panic” for solo viola and dancer. Sixto has released three albums: “Latino Music for Guitar and string quartet” (2018) released by DelMark records, “Latinoamerica” (2015) and “Quartango” (2016) as a member of the Chicago based Kaia String Quartet. He is a Master Graduate from Thornton School of Music at University of Southern California and has earned a Performance Degree in Chamber Music studies at the Northern Illinois University.
Christopher Ferrer is a member of Lakeshore Rush and teaches at the New Music School. He performs with Camerata Chicago and has been a featured chamber musician on WFMT. From 2013-2014 he worked as principal cellist for the West Side Story North American Tour. Christopher attended the Royal College of Music in London and Northern Illinois University. While in high school, he was a member of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Encore Chamber Orchestra. Christopher studied cello with Ann Griffin, John Sharp, Sasha Boyarsky, and Cheng-Hou Lee, and has had the opportunity to perform in masterclasses with Julian Jacobson, Janet Hilton, Lewis Kaplan, and Warren Jones.
