Wicker Park Advisory Council Meeting Minutes

ATTENDED: Clare Rodriguez (Park Supervisor), Adam Housley (WPAC President), Scott Venable (WPAC, Vice-President & Mosaic Church), Richard Tilley (WPAC Treasurer), Doug Wood (WPAC Secretary), Denise Browning (Former WPAC President & WPGarden), Susan Fontana (Former WPAC President & WPGarden), Elaine Coorens (Our Urban Times), Mike Payette (WPAC Security Committee), Joe Sawicki (softball), Ron Wachholtz (Collaboraction – Director of Community Partnerships), John Shirk (Urban Encounter & Wicker Mic)

  1. Secretary (Doug Wood) – May Minutes were read and approved.
  2. Budget Report given by Richard Tilley.
  3. Ron Wachholtz (Collaboraction – Director of Community Partnerships)
    Ron distributed information on the current programming and gave out coupons for reduced tickets. He again expressed that Collaboraction would like to see more neighbors in attendance.
  4. Park District Report – Clare Rodriguez, Park Supervisor
    Clare reported that Summer Camp is sold out with the exception of a few positions for the teen class. She reported that Night Out: Toddlers, Tunes, & Turtles at Wicker was presented today – Tuesday, June 3, 2014 from 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM. She said it was a great success and they even brought big snakes for the kids to enjoy. She reported that trades has been working well with her and that she has received the spread sheet for items we requested for the WPAC event series. In addition, she reported that Aaron Adamkiewicz, permits, and the partnership team were working closely with her to confirm all permits and partnerships. She illustrated how the uploading of documents process is new this year and the Park District Staff involved are slowly working out the problems. She is confident in the process and that all paperwork will be completed successfully.
  5. Dog Park & Ask Us About Wicker Park T-Shirt
    Adam Housley reported that all is going well and that some asphalt still needs to be replaced. In addition, he discussed the Ask Us About Wicker Park T-Shirt to be ready soon.
  6. Website & Movies – Tim Kolecke Absent
    Doug Reported that Tim Kolecke has done a great job at uploading all the information on all events and the site is a very useful tool for our programming.
  7. Softball – Joe Sawicki reported that the summer season that began on Sunday, May 4 with 10 teams in play is going well.
  8. Upcoming Events were discussed and status of partnerships, trades orders, and permits: ‘Care’-a-oke!, Yoga, Hooping, Green Resource Fair, Wicker Mic, Learnapalooza, and Garden Tending. The status of the partnerships and permits for each of the events was discussed in Clare’s report. Most were not complete as of the meeting time. Members were asked to attend events and hand out the ‘all events’ cards that list events and dates in a business card format. In addition, the group discussed selling snow cones and promoting events at the movies.
  9. Update – Security, Cameras, Weekly and Weekend Security – No report.
  10. Update on Support for Park During Festivals – No Updates were available.
