Wicker Park Advisory Council Meeting Minutes

ATTENDED: Clare Rodriguez (Park Supervisor), Adam Housley (WPAC President), Scott Venable (Vice-President & Mosaic Church), Richard Tilley (WPAC Treasurer), Doug Wood (WPAC Secretary), Denise Browning (Former WPAC President & WPGarden), Susan Fontana (Former WPAC President & WPGarden), John Shirk (Wicker Mic & Urban Encounter), Elaine Coorens (Our Urban Times), Mike Payette (WPAC Security Committee), Michael Watt (Resident – security), Sam Marts (WPB SSA#33), Ron Wachholtz (Collaboraction - Director of Community Partnerships)

  1. Report from Ginny Warnecke, Wicker Park Security Guard – She discussed her work and how she works speaking to all patrons and enforcing Code of Conduct for all patrons. At this point, she is still not able to give tickets and stops numerous incidences of drinking and dogs off leash. She currently works on Tuesdays – Fridays from 4-9pm. She is to work on M-F beginning in May. She is interested in the new camera system and will attend the special April 17 meeting.
  2. Park District Report - Clare Rodriguez, Park Supervisor – Clare reported on the upcoming registration period for the Summer Camps, the addition of a spring camp, and additional programs for the summer. New programs for teens will be implemented and interaction between neighborhoods will be incorporated. She stated that reports (police and risk management) were filed for the damaged bench. The one portable toilet will arrive near the parking the 3rd week of April. It is to be locked. No update on Farmer’s Market.
  3. Report on Continuing Negotiations with New Advisory Council Partners- Doug Wood and Others
    • Collaboraction Theatre Company – Ron Wachholtz, Director of Community Partnerships for Collaboration discussed his organization, handed out a brochure of the group’s activities, and stated that they would like to work to become involved in the WPAC partnered events.
    • Carhartt – Doug Wood reported that the Wicker Park Carhartt donated 100 pairs of Large and Medium gloves to the Advisory Council and Garden Club for use at the mulch day and at each weekend’s gardening sessions.
    • Associate Board Friends of the Parks – Doug Wood reported that he spoke with the Associate Board of Friends of the Park via email and at the FOTP PAC Conference. The Group expressed interest in assisting with day of event production of the Music Series.
    • Core PowerYoga Bucktown (Garden Day – Saturday, April 12) – The group will assist the gardeners in cleaning the gardens. This is part of their graduation requirements from the organization. More groups will volunteer throughout the season.
    • BIG MULCH DAY LINEUP – Saturday, May 3
  4. Update on Summer Programming – Group
    • Permits – Partnerships – Most are still pending
    • Trades Orders – Most are still pending, but Clare is working on them.
    • Handout & Friends of the Park’s PAC Conference 2014 – Handout was reviewed.
  5. Update on Alderman Moreno's April 17 (7pm Field House) Community Meeting on
    • Setting Details on Security in the Park (cameras, security guard, 14th District)
    • Support for the Park During Summer Festivals
    • The group discussed the details of these two meetings.
  6. Vandalism – Reports – Repairs – (Bench Board Parts for Historic Benches; Graffiti Removal Products)
    These protocols were discussed.

  7. Committee Reports:
    • Minutes March (by Adam Housley) – Minutes were read and approved.
    • Treasurer's report – Report was given.
    • Dog Park – Adam Housley gave report. Dog Park Cleaning will occur at Big Mulch Day on May 3. The Dog Park Fund will cover ½ cost of volunteer food; the Garden Club will cover 2nd half of food costs. Adam would like the asphalt looked into in the dogpark.
    • Web Site Updates – No Report
    • Teen/children's Friday Programming by Mosaic Church – Scott discussed 'Care'-a-oke! Fundraiser for Kids and described the camp location and activities. All agreed it sounded fun and exciting for children.
    • Landscape/Garden Committee – The group reported spring cleaning of gardens was underway.
