Join Us – The Garden As Inspiration CREATE Series The SPRING Session Garden As Inspiration Art Class will be focused on WATERCOLOR Techniques.

Maria Mariottini will teach the class which will be a 6 week long series that explores watercolor techniques and then applying those techniques to painting spring boquets of flowers from the Wicker Park Gardens. Maria Mariottini has a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago and a Master in Educating Adults from DePaul. She produced the Bucktown Arts Fest for 20 years and still serves as a juror. She is committed to the value of arts and community.

THE CLASS LAYOUT – 90 Minute class – During the Class the Teacher and Assistant will walk around to your work tables and assist with any questions that you want to ask.

  • 20 minutes – View the work of watercolor artists focused on each week & work with watercolor techniques presented in that class.
  • 55 min create and finish work in the style of the Artist we studied and the techniques we focused on in the class- but, make it your own.
  • 15 minutes-All Students discuss their artworks to share ideas and insight.

SUPPLY LIST  for the Watercolor Class – Students Bring to the First Class

  • A block of watercolor paper approximately 8in x 12in
  • Watercolors block or tube
  • 3 water color brushes of various sizes
  • Masking tape – narrow (1/4in width) and wide (1in width) – this is used to tape your paper securely to the board so it stays flat when wet.
  • A board at least as big as your paper
  • Paper towels or clean rags

There will be supplement materials supplied by the teacher.

**The Garden As Inspiration Series is a Project of the Wicker Park Garden Club and Advisory Council WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP with The Robey Chicago and The Chicago Park District.  Doug Wood and Maria Mariottini started the series in the summer of 2020 during the pandemic and offered drawing classes in Wicker Park – the park.  Since then, the class has explored watercolor, collage, and mixed media techniques.  The Wicker Park Gardens provided materials for these classes when it was appropriate and/or seasonal.
