Maria Mariottini will teach The Garden as Inspiration Drawing Class, a 6 week long series that explores forms and textures in the 10,000 square feet of the Wicker Park Garden located in Wicker Park at 1425 N. Damen Avenue. The class will combine drawing & watercolor painting. All students will complete drawing exercises at the beginning of each class and then either draw or watercolor after these exercises that apply to both art mediums. The first session will be an intro and tour of the garden by Doug Wood, the garden coordinator and main designer and then students will begin to draw. Each following session will have a focus to encourage expanded skill in seeing and drawing & watercolor.
SHOW YOUR WORK & DISCUSS – Learn by Viewing Other Student’s Works – in the last 10 minutes of Each Class – students show each other their work, give their impressions of the work, and discuss how each student’s work can be improved. The goal after 6 weeks is to fill your notebook with observations that will fuel ideas and aspiration. This class is for all levels.
Maria Mariottini has a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago and a Master in Educating Adults from DePaul. She produced the Bucktown Arts Fest for 20 years and still serves as a juror. She is committed to the value of arts and community.
SHARE WORK WITH OTHERS – EACH WEEK – We will share our work at the End of Class, discuss what we produced and take tips from others about what worked for them to obtain their final work.
The Goal of the Series is to explore the Wicker Park Gardens as a source of inspiration to YOU as you learn various painting and drawing techniques, to meet and share your work with others, and to assist in funding the 10,000 sq. ft. of gardens in Wicker Park.
**The Garden As Inspiration Series is a Project of the Wicker Park Garden Club and Advisory Council WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP with The Robey Chicago and The Chicago Park District.
